On December 1, 2022, the two-day seventh "Bonding Day" Bonding & Composite Technology Exchange Conference opened successfully. The conference was held at Changzhou Platinum Hanjue Hotel. This year, due to the impact of the epidemic, some participants were unable to arrive at the venue. This "Bonding Day" was held simultaneously onsite and online. There were more than 300 participants onsite and online, and guests from 7 major industries and more than 120 companies held a high-standard technical exchange conference.

Summary of conference speech
Mr. Zhang Yuxian, general manager of Yifa Bonding and Composites Research Institute, first delivered an opening speech for the conference. Welcome to the 7th "China Bonding Day"! This year is a very special year. We have all witnessed history and experienced a lot. Fortunately, the future is bright and we are all here together. In a blink of an eye, "bonding day" turned seven. Over the past twelve years, Yifa has been making steady progress, serving all industry-related technical fields such as rail transit, automobiles, home appliances, electronics, aviation, construction, testing, and adhesive development technology. The Bonding Day platform has gradually accumulated experts in more fields. We encourage everyone to refer to each other and continue to innovate on the Bonding Day platform. The country is vigorously developing new energy and becoming a new pillar industry. A large number of new materials, especially composite materials, are used in the structures of various industries, and bonding has become an essential process. Therefore, the theme of this year’s conference is: Bonding all things, scientific and innovative composite materials! Please open your minds and horizons, learn from others, and strive for excellence in your own fields.
Mr. Zhang Yuxian, general manager of Yifa Bonding & Composite Materials Research Institute, then gave a keynote speech around the theme of the conference. The title of the speech was: "bonding everything, scientific and technological innovation of composite materials" scientific and technological innovation under the guidance of standards. "Bonding Day" is a bonding and composite technology exchange platform. Its purpose is to be guided by standards, technology-oriented, down-to-earth, pursue innovation, and create a solid technology exchange platform. Since the "Bonding Day" was held in 2016, it has achieved three-dimensional integration and development, and has continued to expand in breadth and depth. Yifa Bonding and Composites Research Institute has always been adhering to the spirit of customer first, passion and enthusiasm, solid technology, pioneering and innovative spirit, relying on the strong technical support of Germany's Fraunhofer IFAM in the field of bonding and composite materials, starting from the rail industry, over the past 12 years Assist the entire industry to establish and unify bonding standards, and cultivate engineering and technical personnel at all levels with bonding and composite material qualifications. Its training course system continues to expand and enrich, covering EAB, EAS, EAE, Composite-S, Composite-M, Composite-R, Composite-D, bonding design training, aviation special classes, electronic assembly special classes, etc. Yifa Bonding and Composite Testing Center has third-party testing qualifications recognized by CNAS. Its testing capabilities include bonding type verification, new project process assessment, incoming material and accompanying sample testing, failure mode analysis, and composite-related testing projects. Starting from January 2022, international recognition will be added to training certificates at all levels, and the EAS and EAB training standards will be upgraded to European standards respectively. Since the DIN6701 bonding system standard has been recognized worldwide, the upgraded English version of EN17460 is expected to be published by the end of 2022. After being upgraded to the European standard, the system requirements have been updated.
The heavyweight guest on Bonding Day, Professor Yi Xiaosu from the University of Nottingham Ningbo China, a German engineering doctor, professor, and doctoral supervisor, shared with everyone the topic: aerospace structural bonding and advanced composite material technology. Professor Yi introduced the topic in an easy-to-understand manner, and visually demonstrated the complexity of structural adhesive testing to the participants through a large number of microscopic photos. As a part of structural components, adhesives are very reused as substrates and surface treatments. Especially on the bonding surface, there may be "virtual adhesion" problems, making it difficult to control quality. Therefore, systematic testing of bonded joints is required, including their long-term performance and interface aging resistance. Professor Yi has a patent for "off-site" toughening technology, which can effectively improve the toughness bonding effect of epoxy glue. Professor Yi triggered lively interactions as usual, and his vivid speech was warmly welcomed by the participants.
The topic shared by Mr. Zhang Liqing, a senior management expert and professor-level senior engineer of CRRC Corporation, is: DIN6701 bonding system operation supplier management. Mr. Zhang Liqing introduced the establishment process and operation of the DIN6701 bonding system of Changchun Bus Plant, involving organizational structure, staffing, contract review, design management, process management, bonding laboratory, chemical storage management and system certification review, among which Emphasis is placed on supplier management. A very clear and systematic introduction to the content and requirements for external supplier control: classification, evaluation, approval, quotation selection, control type and degree, release approval, release verification, information, performance evaluation, and supply chain management.
3M China Co., Ltd., Mr. Wang Xin, technical expert of 3M Industrial Adhesives and Tape Product Department, executive director of Beijing Adhesive Society. The title of his speech this time is: 3M Rail Transit Solutions. 3M has a full set of bonding solutions, turning design goals into reality through materials science experts, solving design challenges, application-side experience, modular and automated operations, and global technical support. Discussed and shared 3M's research on bonding durability, aircraft and bonding technology, material aging, fatigue strength testing under load, etc. Wang Gong interestingly proposed a contest with prizes, and both on-site and online participants actively participated.
After the wonderful speeches by famous experts, there was an "Expert Discussion" session, through which experts from all walks of life shared their experiences and experiences in the field of bonding to achieve the goal of bonding everything and creating composite materials through science and technology. The guests on the stage had lively discussions, and the most heated topic was: the role and importance of bonding process evaluation.
Yu Fei from BSH Electrical Appliances explained his professional opinion that this issue needs to be considered from two aspects. One is to test the material itself, which requires testing the glue performance data first, and the other is to apply high and low temperature humidity tests to actual products to ensure product stability. Nanjing Canni Motor Sun Jian believes that bonding process evaluation is necessary and the most important. Assessment can verify parameters in the production process and effectively determine stability during the life cycle. Manual operations can be standardized through work instructions, and their use in different application scenarios should be considered. The entire life cycle needs to be taken into consideration. Therefore, process assessment is a systematic and all-round work. Shanghai Yaopi Luobin believes that automobile manufacturing is a large-scale production, and bonding process evaluation is very necessary. In particular, glue selection tests and aging tests need to be considered. For example, high temperature and high humidity will encounter various environmental impacts in the future, such as salt spray and high humidity. For automated production lines, manual samples need to be evaluated first, and the most important thing to pay attention to is the evaluation of tooling samples. In addition, it is very important to choose glue. Wang Haibo of CRRC Qingdao Sifang believes that the answer is clear. Bonding is a special process, and process verification can be reflected in the work instructions. To be able to do process assessment, you need to be systematic and professional. Professor Yi pointed out that it is difficult to save costs during process evaluation. Every step of the aerospace industry requires inspection, and the cost of parts is high and difficult to control. We can learn from other industries and share their experience.
In addition, there are two questions related to the new challenges of bonding applications in various industries under the development of new energy industry, and the points that should be paid attention to in the bonding application of composite material/aluminum alloy joints. Mr. Chen Xijia, technical director of Yifa Bonding & Composite Materials Research Institute, gave a speech entitled: Design and Verification of Bonding & Composite Material Structure. Combining the design verification process of multiple project cases, he shared the issues that need to be paid attention to in the design and testing of bonding and composite materials, including the simulation calculation and testing requirements of elastic glue and high modulus glue, the development process of composite material products and Precautions during testing, etc. These cases aroused widespread interest among the guests present, especially the simulation calculation methods, test projects and the newly developed adhesive selection service platform developed by Yifa.
Professor Li Yongbing, professor and doctoral supervisor of vehicle engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, executive deputy director of the General Motors-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Advanced Manufacturing Technology Joint Research Laboratory, and deputy director of the Shanghai Key Laboratory of Digital Manufacturing of Complex Thin-Wall Structures, shared his speech : The lightweight vehicle body poses challenges to connection technology and research progress on bonding-related processes. The report introduces the challenges faced by body connection technology, the progress of the research group's connection direction work, and the development trend of body connection technology. The report focuses on the comparison between Bonding & Composite connection technologies and mechanical connection and resistance welding processes.
Hu Shengxiang, deputy chief engineer of Zhengzhou Zhongyuan Silande High-Tech Co., Ltd. The topic that Hu Gong shared this time was the development of high-performance adhesive sealing materials and their application in rail transit. High-performance adhesives for rail transit, static strength and fatigue properties of bonded joints. The performance characteristics of various composite materials and epoxy adhesives were also introduced, such as: composite adhesive film for aramid honeycomb panels, edge sealing of composite panels, composite material bonding, floor cloth adhesive, etc.
Wang Haibo, senior engineer, CRRC Qingdao Sifang Rolling Stock Co., Ltd./National High-Speed EMU Assembly Engineering Technology Research Center/Composite Materials Department. The topic of Wang Gong’s speech today is the research on adhesive riveting connection technology of composite car body. As material costs and manufacturing costs decrease, the technology matures, and the yield increases, some high-speed train cabs, equipment cabins and other components will realize the batch application of composite materials, and gradually extend to low-speed grades. The selection, simulation analysis and experimental verification, and surface treatment process optimization in the application research of composite car body adhesive riveting technology were introduced in detail.
Ren Jianfeng, general manager of Shengtong Laser Intelligent Equipment (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd., gave a report entitled: Application of laser cleaning and polishing in rail transit and bonding industries. Mr. Ren introduced the characteristics and related applications of single-mode and multi-mode laser cleaning. Compared with traditional industrial cleaning methods, it has obvious advantages in cleaning methods, workpiece damage, cleaning efficiency and effects, safety and environmental protection, and cost investment. In addition, actual cases were used to better demonstrate the cleaning effects of rust removal, coating removal, oxide layer removal, blue film removal, etc., which attracted widespread interest from the participants.
The "Bonding Day" forum has become more and more influential, attracting the sponsorship and participation of first-class adhesive manufacturing companies, surface treatment companies and testing institutions at home and abroad, such as 3M, Bostik, Zhongyuan Siland, Shengtong Laser, Jiaotong Railway, etc. They all brought their top products and latest technologies to the scene. At the welcome dinner on the first day of the conference, since most of the guests attending the meeting were EAS (European Adhesive Technicians) and EAE (European Adhesive Engineers) students trained by Yifa, the dinner was like a large-scale class reunion, and students met and drank. Extremely affectionate! New members and old members got to know each other, and the atmosphere at the dinner was extremely lively!
