On May 20-21, 2019, the 4th "Bonding Day" Technical Exchange Conference was held as scheduled at the Zhejiang International Hotel by the West Lake in Hangzhou.
The conference was co chaired by Prof. Dr. Andreas Gross, the head of the Adhesive Academy at Fraunhofer IFAM (German Fraunhofer Institute for Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Technology), the chairman of the DIN6701&DIN2304 standard drafting committee, and Zhang Yuxian, the general manager of Shanghai Yifa Adhesive Training Center.
Conference theme: cohesion, integration, and exploration
1. Aggregation: refers to the aggregation of industry elites and advanced technologies
From the earliest rail transit, to now more than 320 companies from various industries such as automobiles, home appliances, electronics, aviation, surface testing and surface treatment technology, adhesive research and development production, and adhesive equipment, totaling more than 121 companies, participated in the conference. In addition, the influence of the conference has also expanded to countries such as Germany, Japan, and the United States. Bonding Day brings together experts, talents, and advanced technologies from different industries and countries, providing a platform for communication and cooperation for attendees.
2 Fusion: The fusion of information, technology, and resources
Experts from various fields discussed adhesive technology and presented 24 wonderful speeches, covering topics such as the development of adhesive standards, the application and latest developments of adhesives, verification of adhesive processes, application cases of adhesive technology in rail transit, automobiles, home appliances, and aviation industries, adhesive design methods, surface treatment methods and testing equipment, automation and manual adhesive application equipment, etc. Technologies from different industries collide and spark here, and talents from different fields exchange information and share resources, promoting the integration and development of adhesive technology in various fields.
3. Development: the exploration of new industries and business opportunities
This conference is not only based on the exchange of bonding technology, but also closely follows the needs of the times and adds the topic of composite materials. Composite materials are at the dawn of industrialization. This conference introduced in detail the bonding cases of composite materials, their applications in rail transit, automobiles, home appliances, and aviation, composite material production equipment, and related training through multiple composite material topics. It pointed out the direction of the dawn for the attendees and provided new perspectives and business opportunities.

Professor Andreas Gro ß, Professor at Fraunhofer IFAM Adhesive Research Institute and Chairman of the DIN6701&DIN2304 Standard Drafting Committee, opened the chapter by reviewing the historical process of welding technology from its inception to its acceptance by the public. He pointed out that confidence is the foundation of technological development at all times. The establishment of confidence cannot be separated from the guarantee of a quality system. He boldly predicted that with the advancement and maturity of technology, adhesive technology may become the top ranked connection technology of the 21st century. In addition, he also provided a macro overview of the latest implementation of DIN6701 and DIN2304 standards to highlight the key factors that need to be considered based on the standards. The applause on site was thunderous and the response was enthusiastic, giving everyone a more intuitive and profound understanding of the standards.
Dr. Zhang Jingfen, Marketing and New Business Director of Shanghai Yifa Adhesive Chemical Training Center, introduced the achievements of Shanghai Yifa in the past year, as well as the new changes in the company's personnel and training courses, especially the progress of the preparation of the Composite Materials R&D Center. At the same time, the promotion of DIN2304 in the Chinese market and the summary of the standard were also emphasized.
Professor Yi Xiaosu, a member of the Asia Australia Composite Materials Council, Aviation Industry Group of China, and University of Nottingham Ningbo, mainly elaborated on composite materials and bonding technologies in the aviation industry, focusing on four bonding cases and three bonding challenges. We have conducted in-depth discussions on common cases in the aviation industry, such as lightning protection, electromagnetic shielding, and structural conductivity, which have provided great inspiration for technical personnel in different industries.
Mr. Zhu Hui, Technical Manager of Henkel General Industrial GM China, gave a comprehensive introduction to bonding solutions in the industrial field, including bonding of composite vehicle bodies, floor joints, shock absorption and noise reduction, and engineering nylon. Large amount of information and rich case studies leave a deep impression on people.
Mr. Liu Xianfeng, NVH Manager and Senior Engineer of SAIC Volkswagen Body Chassis, conducted testing and result analysis on the NVH performance of automotive industry sealants, and obtained improvement suggestions for the adhesive's NVH through detailed experimental data and finite element simulation.
Dr. Wu Haiping, Technical Director of Shanghai Hansi Industrial Co., Ltd., gave a wonderful report on composite material bonding, which involved core technical issues such as honeycomb bonding, the influence of release cloth on bonding, the influence of bonding thickness and area, and the bonding of SMC front and back sides. Each issue was a valuable summary of experience, which benefited everyone greatly.
Mr. Wang Haibo, the bonding supervisor of CRRC Qingdao Sifang Locomotive and Rolling Stock Co., Ltd., shared with everyone the complete process of establishing a bonding quality system based on his own work experience. These are all cases summarized from practical experience, professional and valuable.
Mr. Hang Xiang, Senior Training Lecturer at Shanghai Yifa Adhesive Training Center, DIN6701 Certification Auditor, and Manager of Yifa R&D Center, gave an authoritative explanation of the process and precautions for DIN6701-3 adhesive joint design verification. Hang Xiang is the keynote speaker of Yifa Adhesive Design and the project leader of the adhesive design. His report has clear and concise ideas. A systematic explanation has been provided on the common design issues in the field of adhesive bonding, which is important and practical.
Mr. Lun Mosen, an expert in Bosch adhesive technology services, introduced the extraordinary usage characteristics of SMP adhesive in his speech. Its excellent aging resistance, UV resistance, high temperature resistance, and sprayability are very suitable for the railway vehicle industry and can be said to be a strong competitor to PU adhesive. At the same time, he also introduced adhesive cases related to bonding EPDM rubber, shock absorption and noise reduction, and automotive bonding, which is truly "3, 5, 8 wins the world".
Mr. Wang Xin, a technical expert in the 3M Industrial Adhesive and Tape Products Department and executive director of the Beijing Adhesive Society, introduced the research on environmentally friendly bonding of composite materials and how the high-speed rail industry can achieve weight reduction requirements through adhesive selection. The cases are rich and impressive.
Mr. Yu Fei, Senior Materials Engineer at Boxihua Electric Refrigerator R&D Center, provided a detailed introduction to the use of adhesive cases and precautions in the home appliance industry. It can be seen that Boxihua's home appliance quality comes from in-depth research on every detail, and it is truly a leading enterprise in the home appliance industry.
Mr. Chen Xijia, Manager of Shanghai Yifa Composite Materials R&D Center and Master of Composite Materials at Dresden University of Technology in Germany, introduced another series of successful courses that Yifa is preparing for at Fraunhofer: Composite Technician FRP-S, Composite Material Manufacturer FRP-M, and Composite Material Repairer FRP-R. This course is a joint research achievement of more than ten research institutes under Fraunhofer, and is awarded a highly valuable Fraunhofer certificate. The entire process is taught by German technical experts with Chinese translation, and 50% of the time is spent on practical process operations, which is very helpful for a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of composite material technology.
Mr. Wang Lei, the General Manager of Klux Scientific Instruments (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. in Germany, introduced the methods for measuring contact angle, dyne value, and the composition of liquid surface tension. Surface science is systematic and profound, requiring professional instruments for measurement.
Ms. Cai Junxiu, Director of Weibaste Manufacturing Engineering and Operations Experimental Center, introduced their adhesive solution and attention issues for automotive sunroof systems. The sunroof contributes significantly to the lightweighting of automobiles, and the bonding process is essential for connecting sunroofs with different functions to the car body.
Mr. Magnus Buske, the application market manager of Pusma Plasma Equipment Co., Ltd. in Germany, and Mr. Chen Yidong, the general manager of China, introduced the latest technologies and industrial application cases such as the optimal window coefficient of atmospheric pressure plasma, the integration of plasma equipment into two-component PU production lines, and PT Bond surface coating technology, which greatly benefited people.
Dr. Yu Zhijin, the certification auditor for DIN6701 at Shanghai Yifa Adhesive Training and National University of Singapore, shared with us the standards of DIN6701-4. He used a game like approach to vividly visualize the boring standards, leaving a deep impression on people.
Mr. Li Renzhe, the adhesive supervisor of CRRC Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co., Ltd., pays attention to environmental protection and fire safety. He emphasized that EN45545 focuses on people, not vehicles, and is most concerned with providing passengers and train crew with escape time. The on-site discussion was lively, and representatives from the home appliance industry, materials industry, composite manufacturing industry, and rubber factory all raised their own concerns about fire prevention. Everyone exchanged ideas and achieved the integration of technology in various fields.
Mr. Shen Liang, General Manager of Hangzhou Deli Technology Co., Ltd., introduced the application of adhesives in the rail industry and new energy industry. His company has been independently researching and producing for 17 years and has dominated the world in many segmented fields. His report provided attendees with a fresh perspective on adhesives.
Mr. Pan Le, a bonding engineer at CRRC Tangche Company, has a unique understanding of DIN6701-3. Through careful study of the standard, he has developed his own effective experience in calculating the bonding of urban rail vehicles. At the same time, he focuses on the development of carbon fiber lightweight car bodies and green, safe, environmentally friendly, and efficient bonding.
Dr. F ü rst and her project manager, Ms. Liu Ying, from Germany's Schmid Machinery Equipment Co., Ltd., visited China for the first time at the Bonding Day. They introduced the German composite material forming process equipment and automated coating equipment, including SMC production equipment, prepreg forming equipment, and fiber cutting equipment. The focus was on introducing the low-cost gantry automated gluing equipment developed by the company.
Ms. Liu Yaqiong, R&D engineer at Zhengzhou Zhongyuan Silande High tech Co., Ltd., introduced the adhesive used in the rail and electronics industry. As the first adhesive enterprise in China to pass DIN6701 certification, Silande's adhesive can provide test reports that comply with DIN6701 standards, which facilitates adhesive design for rail transit enterprises.
Mr. Hu Jun, the laboratory supervisor of the R&D department at Shanghai Yifa Adhesive Training Center, is familiar with the testing standards of DIN6701-3. From the perspective of a practitioner, he provides detailed explanations of each testing item in the M1-M15 standard, with each testing standard, testing fixture, and testing process being the focus of the entire testing process.
Ms. Buruk Sen from Innotech Germany introduced the opportunities and trends of manual gluing equipment. The differences between manual gluing, electric gluing, and pneumatic gluing were introduced through data comparison. And introduced the trends of future manual gluing equipment, namely mechanization, constant conditions, innovation, and sustainability. The company integrates industry resources and can quickly determine the optimal combination of gluing devices, nozzles, and packaging through a database.
Mr. Tomoaki Nishimura, Director of Automotive Adhesive Research and Development at AICA Group in Japan, introduced the butyl rubber thermoplastic elastomer hot melt adhesive, which has a fast curing speed. For structures that require frequent disassembly, maintenance, and replacement while also requiring sealing, such as headlight flange sealing, it can ensure that the adhesive can stick to one side of the structure for easy disassembly.
The influence of the "Bonding Day" forum is increasing, attracting top adhesive manufacturing companies, surface treatment technology companies, testing equipment and coating equipment companies from home and abroad to participate. The exhibition booths around the venue attracted a large number of participants to stop and inquire and discuss, and cooperation intentions were reached on site. This is precisely the value embodiment of the "Bonding Day" forum.
Conference Summary
The "Bonding Day" has developed in recent years, with an increasing scale and a growing number of attendees. A total of 320 people, from 8 industries, 121 companies, and 24 papers. This truly highlights the platform role of "China Bonding Day". What sets this conference apart from previous ones is the addition of a section on composite materials and their bonding technology, strengthened design and calculation training based on DIN6701-3, and included speeches on automotive, home appliances, automation, and manual bonding equipment. Adhesive companies have also become more standardized in their promotion, allowing both adhesive bonding manufacturers and users, as well as adhesive equipment suppliers, to effectively meet their needs.
As the theme of this conference is "Cohesion, Integration, and Expansion", although the two-day meeting was tight, everyone made friends, exchanged technology, broadened their horizons, updated their knowledge, and solved problems.
